Introduction
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is a subspecialty of dentistry. It requires either 4 or 6 years of additional training after obtaining a Doctorate in Dentistry (DDS or DMD). Dr.'s Wineland, Volpe and Ciuci are all board certified by the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. Board certification requires documentation of the completion of a variety of major surgical cases and demonstration of expertise in the form of rigorous written and oral examinations.
Dr.'s Wineland, Volpe and Ciuci manage a wide variety of problems relating to the mouth, teeth and facial regions. In addition to the extraction of decayed and impacted teeth, many other surgical services are available. These include the placement of dental implants, surgical treatment of obstructive sleep apnea, minimally invasive cosmetic surgery, correction of developmental facial deformities (abnormal jaws, chin), treatment of maxillofacial trauma (jaw fractures and facial lacerations), treatment of oral pathology (biopsies and tumors), reconstructive surgery and TMD treatment.
Many of these procedures can be safely and effectively completed in our offices using multiple techniques including local anesthesia, conscious sedation and intravenous anesthesia. Occasionally, for more complex cases, or complex medical histories treatment requires hospitalization. We are on the medical staff of several area hospitals.
